How to Do Live Shopping on Shopify: A Step-by-Step Guide

Everything you need to run your first live shopping show on Shopify — equipment, setup, show planning, promotion and what to do after you go live.

Live shopping is a live video show where shoppers can watch, ask questions and buy the products you're showing — all without leaving the stream. For Shopify stores it combines the personality of social media with your own checkout, your own customer data and no marketplace fees.

What live shopping is (and why it works)

A product page answers questions with text and photos. A live show answers them with a person: how a fabric moves, what the true colour looks like in daylight, how a serum feels on skin. Shoppers can ask "what size are you wearing?" and get an answer in seconds. That mix of trust, urgency and entertainment is why live shopping converts.

It also builds a habit. Stores that run a regular weekly show find viewers coming back, bringing friends and treating the show like an event.

What you need

  • A phone or laptop. A recent phone camera is more than good enough. Stand it on a tripod at eye level.
  • Light. Face a window or use a ring light. Good light matters more than an expensive camera.
  • Sound. A clip-on microphone makes a big difference if your space echoes.
  • Stable internet. 10 Mbps upload or more. Use Wi-Fi close to the router or a cable.
  • A live shopping app. You need a player on your store with products and checkout built in. That's what LiveShoply does.

Set up live shopping on your store

  1. Install a live shopping app from the Shopify App Store.
  2. Turn on the app embed in Online Store → Themes → Customize → App embeds. This adds the floating mini-player and reminder popup.
  3. Add a live page or a "Shows & replays" section to your homepage so shoppers can find upcoming shows.
  4. Create your first show: title, date, a cover image and the products you'll feature.
Tip: add your live page (for LiveShoply it's yourstore.com/apps/live) to your main navigation menu so returning customers always know where to watch.

Plan your first show

Keep the first show short — 20 to 30 minutes — with 5 to 8 products. A simple running order:

  1. Welcome (2 min): say hi, explain the deal or giveaway, ask viewers where they're watching from.
  2. Products (15–20 min): 2–3 minutes per product. Show it up close, try it on, answer chat questions. Pin each product while you talk about it.
  3. Engagement break: run a quick poll ("Sand or sage?") halfway through to keep people chatting.
  4. Wrap-up (3 min): recap the favourites, remind people the deal ends soon, announce the next show.

Promote it before you go live

  • Schedule the show at least 3–5 days ahead and share the link everywhere: email, Instagram stories, your homepage.
  • Let shoppers sign up for a reminder. A reminder 15 minutes before you start brings a noticeable bump in viewers.
  • Tease one product or a live-only discount to give people a reason to show up.

During the show

  • Say viewers' names when you answer their questions — it keeps them watching.
  • Repeat the key info often: price, sizes, and how to buy ("tap the product under the video").
  • Use a live-only discount code to create urgency, and a keyword giveaway to get the chat moving.
  • Have someone moderate the chat if you can, or use blocked words and slow mode.

After the show

Your work isn't over when the stream ends. The replay can keep selling for weeks:

  • Publish the replay on your store with products attached.
  • Cut 15–60 second highlight clips and put them on the matching product pages.
  • Check which products sold and which questions came up — use that to plan the next show.

Consistency beats perfection. Pick a day and time, go live every week, and your audience will grow with each show.
